Aim of the Project:

  • To analyze the current sociolinguistic and ecolinguistic situation in Lithuanian towns and villages, the inhabitants’ linguistic behaviour, repertoire of linguistic means, language variation in different spheres of private and public life, linguistic attitudes, as well as to prepare a collection of maps illustrating the sociolinguistic situation in Lithuania.

Objectives of the Project:

  • To prepare a universal methodological model of a sociolinguistic map;
  • To perform a quantitative analysis on the present sociolinguistic situation in Lithuania: the inhabitants’ linguistic repertoire, command of languages and dialects, i.e. the declared linguistic competence, language usage in various spheres and linguistic attitudes;
  • On the basis of quantitative sociolinguistic data, to prepare a collection of maps illustrating linguistic behaviour, attitudes as well as relationship among various factors (age, gender, education, national identity, places of birth and residence, residential qualification, etc.);
  • To perform a quantitative analysis on the peculiarities of linguistic behaviour in different regions, towns and villages;
  • To make a study depicting the present sociolinguistic and ecolinguistic situation in Lithuania;
  • To prepare a publication with sociolinguistic maps for the general public;
  • To organize an international scientific conference to disseminate the results of the project.
